University Competence Center in Asia Pacific and Japan

Queensland University of Technology (QUT) became the University Competence Center (UCC) for Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ) starting January 2008. Prior to this, it was the UCC for Australasia and Oceania which it has served since January 2000. Currently, UCC APJ serves 46 universities and is in discussions with an additional 59 universities to determine their requirements. In 2009, it is expected that UCC APJ will have 150 customers.

QUT has been teaching with SAP products since 1997. Staff from QUT have participated in many of the international panels on Enterprise Systems education and have developed innovative curriculum in Business Process Management, Enterprise Architectures and Enterprise Systems.

UCC APJ has 83 virtual machines running under Linux in a Dell M600 Blade environment using 21.5 TB of disk space in a Storage Area Network. The virtualization is using VMWare. In this environment, there are 60 instances running SAP ERP 2005 (ECC 6), SAP ERP 2004 (ECC 5), R/3 4.7 and R/3 4.6C.

There are instances running BI 7, SAP CRM 5, SCM 5, and SAP Solution Management 7. UAP members are accessing Global Bike International (GBI), BPI 1, BPI 2, Grand Valley, Fitter Snacker, IDES and IDES configured by Cheryl Calvert.

In addition, there are the certificate environments for BPERP and TERP10 and the business decision making environment HEC Montréal ERP simulation game. Finally, some universities are teaching ABAP and intend to teach SAP NetWeaver Development. These systems are installed on the SAP NetWeaver platform and accessed via SAP Enterprise Portal.

Research

Staff has been conducting research into Enterprise Systems Success (Gable et al), Business Process Management (Rosemann et al), Workflow (ter Hofstede et al), Service Oriented Architectures (Dumas et al) and Organizational Readiness for Enterprise Systems (Stewart et al).

These academics have worked with SAP Labs and SAP Research, as well as Accenture, Bearing Point, BHP and Rio Tinto and others.
