Accounting Information Systems
Developer(s):
California State University, Chico: Jim Mensching
Description
In the developer's belief that the application of the theory within a course, especially the accounting information systems (AIS) course, is where a substantial amount of student learning occurs, the materials that are presented here are designed to introduce the students to a series of cases and problems that mirror much of what the students will be doing when they become professionals.
The material for the accounting information systems course is delivered in a series of standalone modules. Each module can be introduced into an AIS course or other accounting or MIS courses determined by the needs of that course. It is recognized that different schools will have different curriculum. At some universities the AIS course is the first professional accounting course that the students take. However, in other universities the course may come later in the curriculum. For most of the modules the materials supplement the coverage of standard AIS textbooks. Because of this, the lecture slides are kept to a minimum. Instead of covering both the theoretical topics and application of the theory, they only cover specific points dealing with how the assignments apply the theory.
Introductory Financial Accounting
Developer(s):
Grant MacEwan College: Jerry Zdril
Description
This course may be used with any of the commonly used textbooks, although it was designed with the Larson & Jenson text, "Fundamental Accounting Principles", which is in use at many colleges and universities across North America. The course provides a full set of instructor PowerPoint files, student exercises, and multi-media support, to enable a standard, introductory accounting course to be taught with the support of SAP software.
Introductory Management Accounting
Developer(s):
Saint Joseph's University: Joseph Ragan
Description
This material contains a series of exercises within SAP ERP which demonstrate some of the most important features within management accounting. Each unit opens with basic management accounting and information about the linkages with SAP. This is then followed by exercise scripts.
Cost Accounting Exercises and Case Studies
These materials are a series of exercises with two case studies to familiarize students with concepts in Cost Accounting on the SAP System. Specifically covered are the following:
- cost accounting terminology and concepts as used in the SAP ERP system
- management accounting tools provided within the Controlling (CO) and Enterprise Controlling (EC) modules
- building blocks (master data) contained in the CO and EC modules
Flya Kite - Independent Accounting Case
Developer(s):
Sam Houston State University: Ross Quarles and Fawzi Norman
Description
Flya Kite is a series of introductory level cases with exercises that allow participants to execute business processes in five key areas: sales logistics, production logistics, procurement logistics, accounting/controlling, and human resources. Additionally students are introduced to SAP navigation, and master data use and creation. The cases are preconfigured with all control/configuration data and master data necessary to process the unique transactions arising in each area as well as transactions involving integration across functions. Each of the cases will accommodate 999 users per client.
This set of materials contains the Accounting case. It takes approximately one week per case. The instructor text for each case includes a test bank, suggested grading schemes, instructional suggestions, and a troubleshooting guide to help diagnose and correct common student errors and mistakes. Also included are PowerPoint lecture slides for the cases.
If you wish to utilize all five cases, please see the Flya Kite Integrated Case located in the Business Process Management library.
Management Control Systems Using Project Management Systems
The course focuses on study of organizational uses of accounting information to implement strategies and control operations. It focuses on how an ERP system may be used to plan, control and evaluate a large, complex project by using Investment Management Module and the Project System Module in SAP ERP.
Planning, Control, and Performance Evaluation Using ERP Software
These materials provide students with an in-depth view of the enterprise wide planning, control, and performance capabilities of SAP ERP. A comprehensive case study is created by student teams representing the value chain areas of procurement, production, and sales. The case study develops a comprehensive plan for sales, production, procurement, cost center activities, standard product costs, and product prices. Students then record actual results for a period and perform a comprehensive analysis of actual vs. planned results.
