SAP NetWeaver Products
The SAP NetWeaver technology platform enables the composition, provisioning, and management of SAP and non-SAP applications across a heterogeneous software environment. With SAP NetWeaver, organizations can ensure that mission-critical business processes are reliable, secure, and scalable. Organizations can also use the SAP NetWeaver Composition Environment offering to enable new business processes to respond quickly to changing business requirements. To evolve toward enterprise SOA, customers can leverage enhanced technology delivered in additional SAP NetWeaver shipments (for example, SAP NetWeaver Business Intelligence Accelerator software or the SAP NetWeaver Master Data Management component) to complement their core business processes.
The key shipment of the SAP NetWeaver technology platform is the SAP NetWeaver main release, which is shipped separately or together with other SAP applications; however, as the technology foundation for SAP applications, SAP NetWeaver may be delivered earlier. In addition to the main release, complementary offerings reflecting the growth of the overall SAP NetWeaver technology platform are made available as separate shipments, the most significant being the SAP NetWeaver Composition Environment. Main Releases
Main releases of SAP NetWeaver are the continuation of the original scope of SAP NetWeaver as defined by the first release, SAP NetWeaver 2004, which unifies a diverse set of technologies into a common platform. It serves as the technology foundation for SAP applications, provides a wealth of functionality for the integration of information and processes, and enriches the user experience. The user experience strategy for SAP NetWeaver ensures that business applications and information are delivered to the user's interface of choice. SAP's comprehensive approach supports Web, desktop, and mobile usage. Applications for information workers, such as DuetTM software, support casual users and information workers with interactive forms and embedded interfaces. A common look, feel, and interaction style ensure a consistent and intuitive experience, whichever interface is chosen. By building on shared-platform user interface services, SAP minimizes IT cost of ownership while maximizing flexibility for every user.
Complementary Products
Complementary products for SAP NetWeaver are part of the SAP NetWeaver technology platform, but are shipped separately from the main releases. The complementary offerings either provide additional functionality, for example, as appliances, to complement or extend the main releases, or allow a quicker adoption of brand-new and innovative technologies of the technology platform offered as separate products such as SAP NetWeaver Process Integration 7.1. Customers can run core business processes on one system based on SAP NetWeaver 7.0, while using the latest technology enhancements of SAP NetWeaver Process Integration 7.1 or SAP NetWeaver CE 7.1 in a side-by-side approach. Further supplementary products (for example, Duet) provide additional value for specific use cases. Appliances include specific supporting technologies such as the SAP NetWeaver Business Intelligence Accelerator software.
Products Prior to SAP NetWeaver
Prior to the introduction of SAP NetWeaver as an integrated technology platform, SAP has developed a number of integration technologies and offered them as individual products, among them for example SAP Enterprise Portal, or SAP Exchange Infrastructure. Some of the releases of these products offered before 2004 are now still in maintenance mode.
