SAP NetWeaver Portal Technology
The portal offers a single point of access to SAP and non-SAP information sources, enterprise applications, information repositories, databases and services in and outside your organization—all integrated into a single user experience. It provides you the tools to manage and analyze this knowledge, and to share and collaborate on the basis of it.
With its role-based content, and personalization features, the portal enables users—from employees and customers to partners and suppliers—to focus exclusively on data relevant to daily decision-making processes.

Accelerated Application Delivery
Accelerated Application Delivery
Accelerated Application Delivery for SAP NetWeaver enables end users worldwide to access web-based SAP applications (e.g. SAP NetWeaver Portal) at near-LAN speed. This appliance overcomes bandwidth and latency issues very efficiently with caching, compression algorithms and special application-aware optimizations. Currently, there are specific optimizations available for the SAP NetWeaver Portal, Knowledge Management (accessing and collaborating on documents) and the SAP Learning Solution. Additional optimizations are planned for other web-enabled SAP applications like Business Intelligence (BI), ERP Business Packages, CRM and Composite Applications - although with the generic optimizations those applications can already benefit from the technology today.

Portal Navigation and Look & Feel
Portal Navigation and Look & Feel
The portal provides a lot of possibilities to adapt the style and the navigation to the needs of your company. On this page, you can find information and links on how this can be done, both from an administrator's and from a developer's point of view.
When talking about Look & Feel, there are three key tools that help you with adapting it:
- Theme Editor: Enables you to modify the stylesheets for the portal.
- Navigation iViews: Enables you to modify how the navigation links are displayed.
- Page Layouts: Enables you to create new ways for laying out iViews on a page.
Portal Content Integration and Administration
Portal Content Integration and Administration
The Web-based environment of the portal provides the business users in your organization secure access to a wide array of applications, information, and services, such as ERP, analytics, business intelligence, and document repositories. The single sign-on (SSO) capabilities of the portal, its unified environment, and its role-based content delivery, provide users with the tools they need to perform their daily tasks.
To make all this content available is mainly the task of a Content Administrator.
Portal System Administration
Portal Development
Developers can build their own portal components for displaying custom content, as well as portal services for providing custom processing. These custom components and services can make use of dozens of built-in portal services, such as for creating navigation links, transforming XML content or scripting client-side eventing.
As a prerequisite, the developer should have a basic knowledge about HTML, Java and servlet programming, JSP (Java Server Pages) and basic operating system commands for navigating in the file system, copying and editing files
