SAP MaxDB - The SAP Database System

SAP MaxDB is SAP's own database technology. SAP business applications run on SAP MaxDB in thousands of customer installations, covering a wide range of installation sizes: from small desktop installations to very large servers. Of course, SAP MaxDB has to pass SAP's rigorous quality assurance process before being released.

SAP MaxDB can not only be used with SAP applications, but you can also download it for use with non-SAP applications – for free. For more information, read the SAP MaxDB Community License and visit our wiki and forum.

Only minimal administration is required to run SAP MaxDB. Automation plays a big role: the system can for example automatically back up log entries for restore, adjust the database size, or collect statistics for future analysis. SAP MaxDB is based on industry standards, with interfaces such as SQL92, JDBC and ODBC. It is available on Microsoft Windows, Linux and Unix, and for the most prominent hardware platforms.

Updates for SAP MaxDB 7.8.02 Available for Download

Update of the software for SAP MaxDB version 7.8 has been published in SCN and is available for download. 

Among others, it contains the following new features and improvements:

• Volume balancing was sped up significantly
• CPU load balanced by default
• Multiple log partitions allowing parallel log writing
• Improved default settings for better monitoring of the system
• Identification of clients running commands
• Automatic recreation of bad indexes is configurable
• Software installations are fully isolated from each other
• New backup template definition
