What Are the Hardware and Software Requirements?

Hardware:

A PC with at least:

  • Pentium II or better
  • Minimum 512 MB RAM
  • Minimum of 13 GB free disk space
  • Minimum of 1024 MB swap space (Default should be at least twice of RAM)

Larger resources are recommended for running all software stacks in parallel. For the "mySAP Technology Test Drive" 256 MB RAM with a minimum of 512 MB swap space and 6 GB of free disk space should be sufficient.

You can run the mySAP.com on Linux Basis 4.6B with 192 MB RAM and 5 GB disk space but larger resources are recommended.

Software:

  • The required software depends on your test drive. The tested distributions for the test drives are the following:
  • SAP NetWeaver on Linux (NW4, SI4): SuSE 8.1, SuSE 9, Red Hat 9 or Fedora Core 1.
  • SAP Web AS on Linux (WAS, SI1): SuSE 7.2 or Red Hat 7.1.
  • mySAP.com on Linux Test Drive (Basis Release 4.6B): Red Hat 6.1.

Other Linux distributions are also possible, see here.

Which Linux Distributions Can I Use with my Test Drive?

The tested distributions are listed on the specific TestDrive sub-pages. Usually also newer distributions should work as well.

Can I Write Web Applications with the Evaluation Versions?

This depends on the TestDrive you are using. The technical infrastructure and the Web Application Builder as part of the Development Workbench is included in SAP Web Application Server 6.10 and >=6.40, but not in the SAP Basis Release 4.6B

Can I Write Java Applications with the Evaluation Versions?

This depends on the TestDrive you are using. The newer SAP NetWeaver based Test Drives provide the necessary infrastructure. If you need more information about writing applications, you can visit the SAP Developer Network.

Can I Run the LNX and WAS System on the Same Machine?

Yes. You will have to run the vserver of the WAS database. Detlef Werner provided a solution on the Linux-general mailing list, Norbert Bazin was so kind to give it an update:

Yes, both versions can be started in parallel presumed that only the x_server (vserver) from SAP DB 7.3 is used and started first. The use of the newer version is mandatory since the vserver is always used to control the DB (start, stop respective cold, warm). Furthermore the file system access rights on /usr/spool/sql must be adapted, since the sqdlnx, lnxadm respective wasadm are in different groups. I replaced the {x_,v}server in /usr/sap/LNX/db/bin|pgm by symbolic links pointing to /opt/sapdb/indep_prog/bin|pgm. Note however that the startsap respective sapdb command in the 6.10 version cannot deal with an already running vserver started by the elder version.
