Map SAP BusinessObjects BI Solutions to BI Requirements Across the Enterprise
You are already familiar with the value and strengths of SAP BusinessObjects BI solutions. The following interactive tools will help you understand how the solutions best fit together to address specific business user BI requirements across the enterprise.
When considering the deployment of BI front-end tools across the enterprise, a key first step is to understand the end user profiles. Typically, there are three groups of BI end users with different BI requirements:
-
Executives and managers - These users require immediate access to business analytics and aggregated metrics or key performance indicators (KPI). They typically have access to predefined information prepared by IT professionals or business analysts.
-
Business analysts - These users access corporate data and interpret it for peers, executives, and managers. They know how to create and share reports, and analyze data to determine root cause and impacts and to support the decision making process in their organizations. Typical examples of business analysts will be found in the sales and marketing operations, and finance departments.
-
Information consumers - These users focus on day-to-day operational activities. They also need access to BI to monitor operations and transactions in accordance with corporate strategies and policies. They have been underserved by traditional BI due to complexity, though, and they usually simply focus on consuming canned reporting. Typical examples of information consumers will be found front-line to service customers and connect with suppliers.
The Right Tool for the Right Job
With this understanding as a backdrop, the Selecting the Right Tool for the Right Job interactive visualization enables you to assess how the full suite of SAP BusinessObjects BI solutions addresses the requirements for all three user profiles:
-
- On the 1st screen you can go through a typical list of key business user requirements for BI on the left and select on the right for every requirement the user profiles it applies to (or not) in your organization. You can also decide to proceed with best practices gained from organizations most mature with BI.
-
- You can access the 2nd screen by clicking on the Next button. There you can see how your selections on the 1st screen drive how the portfolio of SAP BusinessObjects BI solutions addresses all BI requirements in your organization. More specifically it shows across BI functional areas (search and exploration; OLAP analysis; ad hoc query, reporting and analysis; dashboard and visualization; and enterprise reporting) how all 3 user profiles are served with the right user experience for a broad adoption across the organization.
-
- You can switch back and forth between the screens to adjust your selections in order to better reflect specific requirements. You'll notice, as an example, that SAP BEx Analyzer remains the recommended option for OLAP analysis in a SAP NetWeaver BW context.
Decision Tree
The Decision Tree interactive visualization brings a different perspective. Now that we established how a suite of tools is best suited to address all requirements for a broad adoption of BI across the organization, this tool helps to navigate the same key business user requirements for BI in a way aimed at focusing on a specific project for a target user population in the organization. All high-level decision points are featured as radio buttons to ultimately narrow the tool selection process to the most appropriate solution. You can also visualize all options at once.
