NetWeaver BW – Architecture and tools
SAP NetWeaver 7.0 - Deinstalling Java Add-In
The separation of the mostly existing doublestack (ABAP and JAVA in one instance) into two separate stacks is a SAP recommendation. An option which is available since 7.0 is the deinstallation of the Java Add-In with SAPInst. This presentation gives some details and guidance about the process to prepare better for the Upgrade to NetWeaver BW 7.30 concentrating on the ABAP stack.
As an alternative there is on pilot base the so called "Split tool" available (released to customers in Q3/2011) which bundles the steps of JAVA export, JAVA Add-In deinstallation and fresh Installation as a separate Instance.
ASU Toolbox (incl. BW Specific Content)
With the ASU (application specific upgrade) toolbox customers get one single truth for all pre/post upgrade steps regarding the technical upgrade to NetWeaver 7.0x BW and all following releases. More detailed information about the ASU toolbox can be found in note 1000009.
The tool which is available since 2008 (see also the TechEd Presentation and the new Upgrade to BW 7.30 Presentation) is further developed and allows application specific and technical resources to work together for a successful Upgrade to NetWeaver BW 7.30
CTC for BI-Java
To connect the existing ABAP stack to the new installed JAVA stack there is an automatic connection Wizard available via CTC (central template configuration) for BI-Java. This reduces the implementation effort from days to minutes and helps to reduce the TCO for the NetWeaver BW usage dramatically. More detailed information about the usage and pre requisites can be found in the note 983156.
An overview of the improvements within the NetWeaver Software Lifecycle Management including the ASU toolbox and the CTC for BI-Java can be found here: News and Updates with SPS 14 NetWeaver BW .
With NetWeaver 7.30 JAVA the Functional Unit Configuration UI (former CTC BI-Java Template) is available
