Semantic layer based sets prototype
Create and store sets in the semantic layer - August 5th, 2009
Segment your information into logical groups for better understanding of your information assets. Build these segments based on your existing SAP BusinessObjects universes. This prototype is a plug-in to the information design tool that allows you to create these "sets" , static or dynamic - all in the information design tool query panel.
Semantic layer sets is designed to let our customers leverage their investment in the semantic layer and SAP BusinessObjects BI client tools. Users can now consume those sets natively (for example in the SAP BusinessObjects Web Intelligence Query Panel)
The information design tool
The information design tool is the new generation modeling tool that is due to release with the next major release of SAP Business Objects Enterprise Suite. It is an extensible modeling environment that will allow you to design and maintain more easily universes on all sources but also to extend the modeling to additional business concepts such as sets.
This preview will both allow you to get a sneak preview of the information design tool and its extensibility with the sets creation add-in.
The Sets add-in prototype
You can use the existing semantic layer information already created. There is no need to redefine the connection, the data foundation and the universe information.
Features:
Create consistent segments by building Complex SQL Statements: step by step workflow to build multi-step SQL statement to build sets through visual data
Combine Powerful Segments (Visual Sets): UI to ease combination of sets (intersection, union...)
Create temporal Sets using calendars in order to track segment membership and changes over time: In order to track underlying business trends
Leverage newly created or existing Sets into the query panel to quickly filter queries on specific membership predefined by the Sets
Enjoy!
We hope you'll use this prototype to discover how easily you can create Sets/Segments on top of existing metadata information.. Please provide us with feedback to make sure we know how you're using this and things you would like to see it do in the future.
Please share your feedback on http://sets.uservoice.com
or send us an e-mail on: innovation_center@sap.com
Please remember, this is a prototype only and NOT for use in production environments.
