ARC North America Research Fellowships

ARC Fellowships are awarded to graduate students with thesis topics of interest to SAP in the area of Business Intelligence.  Fellowships are awarded by competition, where the student and supervisor submit a research proposal.

ARC Fellowships

ARC Fellowships are $20,000 CAD per year for master's students (maximum of two years) and $25,000 CAD per year for doctoral students (maximum of three years). Fellowships are renewed annually subject to progress of the student.

ARC Fellowship students are eligible for an annual four-month research residency in Vancouver.  The students are paid a residency travel allowance and stipend for living expenses.

Faculty supervisors for doctoral ARC Fellowship students receive an additional $10,000 CAD annually for the duration of the student's Fellowship.

Fellowship Competition

We are seeking research proposals for ARC Fellowships that relate to topics of mutual interest between SAP's Business Intelligence units and the students' theses.  Topics of particular interest to our engineering teams are

A more business-oriented topic will be posted in the upcoming week.

We are also open to reseach proposals on unsolicited topics that relate to Business Intellingence and the activities in our Vancouver office.  For unsolicited topics, proposals will need to find a matching interest with one of our engineering teams to be selected.  The Academic Research Center will manage this matching process once the initial proposals are submitted.

Students and their supervisors should submit research proposals that include

  • an anticipated starting date,
  • a duration (up to two years for master's and three for doctoral),
  • the name and qualifications (CV) for the supervisor and the student, and
  • a brief (maximum five pages) research plan that responds to a suggested topic.

Proposals need not address all aspects of a topic, but should clearly identify the benefits to SAP of the proposed research and the benefits to the student's thesis.

Proposals that include Masters students are encouraged.

Please consult the list of ARC Fellowships for current research topics.

FELLOWSHIP SELECTION

SAP engineering teams and ARC staff review and short-list proposals based on the research ideas and potential contribution to Business Intelligence. Candidates whose proposals are short-listed then meet with the engineering staff before selection of the final Fellowship recipients is completed.

Proposals received after the submission period may be considered for later funding opportunities.
